Know it's down before your customers tell you

Two questions define operational maturity: how do you find out something broke, and how fast can you get it back? For most businesses the honest answers are "a customer emails" and "we hope the host has backups". We replace both with systems — monitored, rehearsed, reported.

the setup

What a real safety net includes

Uptime & error monitoring

Availability checks from multiple locations plus application-level error tracking — catching the checkout that's broken while the homepage smiles.

Alerting that reaches humans

Alerts routed to people who act — us, under a retainer — not to an unwatched inbox. Tuned to stay meaningful: alert fatigue kills more monitoring than outages do.

Off-site backups

Files and databases backed up on schedule to storage separate from the server — so the failure that takes the site can't take the backups with it.

Restore drills

Recovery rehearsed on a schedule, with the restore time measured and reported. The drill is what turns "we have backups" into "we can be back in 40 minutes".

Retention that fits

Daily, weekly and monthly points kept to match how you'd actually recover — including from the corruption nobody noticed for three weeks.

Certificate & domain watch

SSL expiry, domain renewals, DNS changes — the small administrative time bombs, monitored alongside the big stuff.

Common questions

Our host says they do backups. Isn't that enough?

Ask them three questions: how often, kept where, and when did you last test a restore? Host backups often live on the same infrastructure they're protecting and restore at the host's pace, not yours. Independent, tested backups are your insurance policy — not theirs.

What happens when an alert fires?

Under a retainer or care plan, we investigate and act — most incidents are resolved before you'd have noticed. Standalone setups alert your team instead, with a runbook we write for you.

What does it cost?

Monitoring and backup setup is fixed-price from £500; ongoing cover is included in care plans or from £50/month standalone. Cheap, relative to one bad Tuesday.
